At the confluence of the sea

Sagar Ras Mela is an annual fair held on Sagar Island, located in the Indian state of West Bengal, where the Ganges River meets the Bay of Bengal. This event takes place during Makar Sankranti in January and is considered one of the largest religious gatherings in India. Devotees from various parts of the country come to take a holy dip at the confluence of the river and the sea, which is believed to purify the soul and wash away sins.

The mela includes rituals, prayers, and cultural events, creating a vibrant and spiritual atmosphere. Alongside religious practices, the fair also features stalls, performances, and local crafts, making it a significant cultural event as well. The Sagar Ras Mela holds great religious significance, especially for Hindus, who consider the confluence a sacred spot associated with mythology and divine blessings.
